There is no magic in the music making process. I have started to learn to forget about the magic, that the magic comes later, the beauty and the fun and all of that? That can be found in the moment after you start to write. The moment that you forget to try and find the magic. I figured this out over and over again. Every single morning I ask my self the question: Do I feel like writing? NO! I don’t want to. I want to look at facebook and scroll until I’m bored.
Give yourself the gift of a little time--today. I said to myself. “You can look at Facebook all you want-just, write a little bit. No time limit. No word count. Just write a little bit then you can go on Facebook.” I ended up writing the rough draft lyrics for two songs--and then a really strange thing happened. I got lost. I think 25 minutes passed and I ‘woke up’ from the daze of immersion in the writing. The focus was amazing to feel. Just take a few minutes and start to write the lyrics to that song you’ve had in your head for days, months, decades--put it somewhere safe and come back later. The real magic is in the mundane.
